"D. Ralph Davis' commentaries (Judges, Joshua, I Sam., II Sam.)are ALL consistently amazing.  In fact, if I had just one commentary on each of those books I'd take Davis... I have two copies of each of Davis' commentaries (one for home, one for the office)!"

Joshua by D. R. Davis - Retail $19.99 , 208 pages
"Here is an author who truly bridges the gap between the ancient text and the modern reader. Davis writes in an incredibly readable style. He is an Old Testament scholar who doesn't sound like one. His illustrations and applications are interesting and relevant, yet anchored to the message that the original author intended." - Mark

"With his simple, practical style, D. Ralph Davis is one of the most readable and incisive Old Testament commentators around." - Chris

Judges by D. Ralph Davis - Retail $19.99 , 240 pages
The Church has a problem with Judges, it is so earthy, puzzling, primitive and violent – so much so that the Church can barely stomach it. It falls under the category 'embarrassing scripture'. Such an attitude is, of course, wrong so Ralph Davis here makes Judges digestible by analysing the major literary and theological themes discovered in each section, providing a 'theocentric' exposition.

1 Samuel by D. Ralph Davis - Retail $19.99 , 288 pages
"No pastor who takes the Bible seriously should fail to have this book on his shelf when studying 1 Samuel." - Amazon Review

"If you have never read Ralph Davis' commentaries, you are missing a real treat! He has a depth of insight and the way he applies the Scriptures is truly fantastic." - Amazon Review

2 Samuel - D. Ralph Davis - Retail $19.99 , 282 pages
"No pastor who takes the Bible seriously should fail to have this book on his shelf when studying 1 Samuel." - Amazon Review

Proverbs by E. Lane - Retail $19.99 , 352 pages
No book of the Bible gives the Christian more practical advice than Proverbs. It covers personal problems like sex, ambition, anxiety, fear, money; family matters such as marriage, parenting, discipline and education; social questions like neighboourliness, friendship, disputes and litigation; and even politics, from both the ruler's and citizen's point of view!

Song of Songs by Brooks - Retail $19.99 , 224 pages
This commentary takes a line, it was at one time the consistent evangelical line but that has changed with many in recent years taking the Song to be a book dealing with marriage and sexuality. This opinion appears to be gaining less favour of late so it is time for a modern commentary which takes this viewpoint into account, but which re-establishes the line that the Song of Songs is primarily an exposition of the spiritual relationship between Christ and the believer.

Job by B. Cotton - Retail $19.99
The poet, Alfred Lord Tennyson, is reputed to have called the book of Job, 'The greatest poem of ancient or modern times' It is indeed, a poetic masterpiece; one of the most original poems in the history of mankind, and it also one of the most dramatic illustrations in the Bible of the interrelationship of God, mankind and Satan. There is much argument as to what is the basic theme of Job. There are many opinions- the patienceof a good man under testing, why do the innocent suffer?, the tragedy of life in a fallen world, justification by faith, the comprehensibility of God's dealings with man, even a parable of suffering Israel- all have been suggested. One reason why it may be difficult to find a unifying theme is that it really happened! This is not someone's opinion about spiritual matters but an event that is reported in detail and then set in a different literary style.

Deuteronomy by A. Harman - Retail $19.99 , 286 pages
Allan Harman shows the covenant structure of Deuteronomy while highlighting the precious promises made by God in this newest addition to the Focus on the Bible series.

Judges & Ruth by S. Dray - Retail $19.99
The book of Judges describes a large period of internal troubles in the history of the children of Israel. A time when the 'Judges' (more like warlords) ruled. What a contrast, seen to be all the more serious in light of the successful period under the leadership of Joshua. Stephen Dray points out the important lessons to be learned. The book of Ruth is more than a love story. It shows God to have been at work, ensuring the continuation of the genealogical line from which the future Messiah would be born.
